PENNINGTON
FLASH

Our visit to Pennington Flash was a great success, the weather was kind for a change and, as expected as we hit autumn, the number of bird species overtook the number of wildflowers. Highlights among the 38 species of bird recorded included good sightings of the rare willow tit and watching a large white egret catch and swallow two fish. We also rescued an elephant hawk moth caterpillar that was crossing a well used path.

TITTESWORTH WATER

We had a good day at Tittesworth Water and we were fortunate with the weather for a change. There were a lot more wildflowers than birds. However, the lack of numbers was made up for by fine performances from three kingfishers from the small hide. It was entrancing as they flew circuits from their perches in the reservoir. We must have sat watching for a quarter of an hour.

Miller's
Dale

The group braved a very damp day in a search for Grass of Parnassus and bee orchids. This was unsuccessful but we did find over 70 other flower species.
